Poles
Ski poles are a
necessary part of the total ski package, but they should not be given
undue importance. After all, they are just poles or sticks basically
and as such there is only so much technology that will make them more
effective or have a greater impact on your skiing.
There are several different kinds of poles available, metal, carbon
fiber, bent, straight, etc. Choose whatever you feel will fit your
style of skiing best and don't over-obsess with the decision on ski
poles.
One of the majore considerations is the weight of the pole, and as
such, usually the fiberglass or carbon fiber poles are much lighter
than the metal ones. If you ski a lot for extended periods during the
day the difference in weight can eventually be felt in your arms and
joints. But agin, this is not such a major consideration that it would
negate getting metal poles. Just keep it in mind.
The length of your ski poles is a secondary consideration and if you
make an error in this calculation try to err on the side of having them
too long instead of too short. The reason being that poles can always
be cut down in needed, but you can't stretch them to make them longer.
We have put together a list of the best online ski pole companies for
your convenience below.
